STEWARDSHIP EXPRESSION

November 26 Thanksgiving Day– Countries around the world dedicate special days to expressing thanks for blessings. God gifts each person through His loving generosity each day. Be particularly observant and reflective of the blessings you have in life. Pray for those less fortunate. Put your faith into action through caring words and gestures of outreach and service, being especially mindful of the two greatest commandments - to love God, and to love our neighbors.

November 29 First Sunday of Advent - Advent provides an opportunity for us to begin again and to prepare ourselves anew for the coming of Jesus Christ. It is a time of waiting and expectation, of anticipation and preparation. We can use the coming weeks for personal prayer, growth and change in the way we live. Anticipating the Nativity of Jesus, we can dedicate special time toward considering our relationship to him. As we recall previous Advents, we remember those who inspire us through their faith and actions. We too can be memorable mentors and models to others through our demonstrations of discipleship and stewardship.

LIGHTHOUSE WOMEN'S AND CHILDREN'S SHELTER - located at 500 West South Street in Mayfield, KY, one of the missions is to encourage church participation for residents. One way to participate is in a "dinner ministry". This works by sending representatives from St. Jerome to the Shelter on four nights of each month to help the women prepare a meal for themselves and their children. All the food and planned menus will be provided by the Lighthouse.
The monthly visits could be done by a few women, a youth group or even a family. A typical evening would include gathering time in the Shelter's kitchen, task assignments for meal preparation, food preparation and sharing the meal itself. For more information contact Vicki Ross at 247-0919 or 339-0341.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT - God in His infinite wisdom sets before us every day the Eucharistic table. We good stewards would be wise to attend daily Mass at every opportunity. As stewards of this awesome gift, let us pray that we never take this sacrament for granted.

DIOCESE OF MANDEVILLE - the people Jamaica desire to become self-sufficient so that they may eventually provide for their own needs and for those of their families. Fr. Peter Njoroge was appointed the Social Justice Director for the Diocese of Mandeville. They are needing items to assist in starting businesses. The Owensboro Diocese will send containers in October. A letter about a Self-Sustaining Jamaica and a list of items can be found on the bulletin board in church. If you wish to make a monetary donation make the check to the Diocese of Owensboro, indicate what you wish the money to be used for, and that the money is for the Diocese of Mandeville. This is our Sister Diocese.

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN - Responding to Today's Need and Tomorrow's Vision - The goal is to raise $9 million over a 5-year period. The effort will fulfill the following Diocesan needs:

  • Provide a faith-filled camp and retreat environment to foster and strengthen the Catholic identity of our young people

  • Completely vest the Diocesan Charitable Trust Endowment that was established for the benefit of our sick and retired priests.

  • Fund the restoration and renewal of our Cathedral of Saint Stephen, the seat of our diocese.

  • Establish a diocesan Catholic School and Religious Endowment Fund to meet the growing needs of our children and youth for their Faith Formation.

GASPER CATHOLIC RIVER RETREAT CENTER AND YOUTH CAMP, AND DIOCESAN CHARITABLE TRUST FUND

Our diocesan priests relies upon the fund for his health care and support upon his retirement or illness. Fully vesting the fund through a donation is our way of thanking these laborers for their commitment to Christ's Church and us. The youth camp will provide experiences and opportunities for young people to deepen their Catholic Faith and strengthen their Catholic identity through retreat sessions, religious education opportunities, and camping experiences. Your sacrificial gift will ensure that these worthy needs are fulfilled and attained.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures for us."

DIOCESAN EDUCATION ENDOWMENT FUND AND THE RESTORATION OF THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINT STEPHEN:
Quality Catholic education for our children and youth is core to the mission of the Diocese of Owensboro. Dividends from this fund will provide on-going financial support for Catholic schools and parish religious education programs. A contribution to the campaign will aid in the restoration of the Cathedral, which will continue to serve as home of the Bishop's chair. The Cathedral will continue to serve as a place of worship renowned for its spirit of prayer and beauty. Your Sacrificial gift will help the diocese to fulfill these needs.
